New name, same us, renewed excitement for this business we’ve been building for the past five years. Our journey to becoming Olivera started when we traveled to Spain a couple of years ago for a workshop with Ponderosa & Thyme. It was there that we sat down to really assess our business, where we had been, and where we wanted to go. Katie worked with us both separately through our individual thoughts about our future. When we came together, she asked what we need to tell each other. We looked at each other and said, “I hate our name.”
The Proper Petal has served us well and we are extremely grateful for how far it has brought us. But we’ve grown as designers and business women. It no longer accurately represents our style, personalities, and vibe. We wanted to move in a direction that better exemplified us. Something that brings an image to mind of how we design and the elements that are important to us when you hear it. So welcome to Olivera Floral Design.
A little back story. Olivera in Spanish literally translates to olive tree. We were climbing olive trees in Spain foraging to create. It was where we reformed how this business was going to look to us, how we were going to value it, and what we wanted it to look like long term. On top of that, the olive tree symbolizes peace, resilience, and friendship. More than anything that element of friendship is something that we’ve realized is crucial to the success of this business. The friendship that we have with each other is where we get our strength. Without it, it wouldn’t bring us so much joy. It wouldn’t be something either one of us wanted to pursue so passionately.
Since that workshop, we have really invested in cultivating our relationship which has made the business so much stronger and we wanted that to be represented in the name. For our clients, we want to bring that peaceful, easy, effortless experience to the table because that’s how it should be. Wedding planning can be a stressful process so to be the calm in the storm is something we strive for. Flowers should be fun. We want our clients to feel that joy in our interactions and in the final product. Without them, there wouldn’t be an Olivera Floral Design. To our family, friends, fellow vendors, current and future clients, we have anxiously been awaiting this big step forward and are so glad that you’re along for the ride.
